Do you need a Jeep in Hawaii?

This question comes up a lot. Is a regular rental car OK? If you ask on Facebook, most people will tell you where the cheapest rental is. But you didn't ask for the cheapest rental. You wouldn't fly all the way to Hawaii, sit at a fancy hotel bar and ask the bartender for the cheapest drink.

Do you need a Jeep? Yes, they're handy for getting to places a regular car won't go. Mauna Kea comes to mind.
